Budget Windows Phone Nokia Lumia 525 launched with 1GB RAM

Nokia’s best selling smartphone Lumia 520 already has the best-in-class hardware, only the 512MB RAM is a bottleneck for the high performing dual-core Snapdragon S4 CPU & the Adreno 305 GPU as some of the apps & games in the Windows Phone Store are incompatible with 512MB RAM smartphones. Nokia now perfected the phone with 1GB RAM on the newly launched Nokia Lumia 525.

The new phone looks almost identical to its predecessor though according to Nokia’s official site, all the color variants are getting glossy finish at the back giving more premium look & feel.  Lumia 525 also features changeable covers in dazzling orange, radiant yellow and luminous white. The dimensions & weight remain same.

The new Nokia Lumia 525 runs on Windows Phone 8 with Lumia Black Update. The rest of the specifications are almost same as before – a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 CPU, Adreno 305 GPU, 4″ IPS LCD display with super sensitive touch & 480p resolution, 8GB internal storage and a 1430 mAh battery.

Nokia also packs the phone with their location and navigation apps: HERE Drive, HERE Maps, HERE Transit. HERE Maps shows you how to get anywhere you need to go. HERE Drive gives you turn-by-turn guidance when you’re driving and HERE Transit will tell you your best public transport options. You will also get 7GB of free storage on Microsoft SkyDrive, built-in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint clients.

The camera remains the same with 5MP resolution imaging & 720p recording @30fps. There is still no camera flash and front facing camera. With the ‘Nokia Smart Cam’, you can create action sequences, add motion blur effects or edit photos with tools like Glam Me, Creative Studio and Cinemagraph.

Lumia 520 is considered as the driving force behind Windows Phone’s market share gains but unfortunately Nokia has said Lumia 525 will not be coming to the US or the UK. There is no particular info on its release date in India though the phone already emerged in China after gaining certification for release and according to Engadget, Nokia official site only lists Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific. We also don’t have any exact pricing info for Lumia 525, The Verge confirms that Lumia 525 will be available in Singapore initially on December 14th for SGD249 ($199). So, the initial price in India should be about 12,000 Rs. Lumia 520 retails at 7700 Rs at this moment. Stay tuned for more info, you can visit our YouTube channel for hands on reviews as well.
