Micromax Canvas 4 A210 in-depth Review, Specifications, Price

The latest Canvas 4 A210 has elevated the brand name Micromax from being a budget smartphone maker with stock Android to a premium brand with customised smart software features, just like any other premium MNC brands like Samsung, Sony, HTC etc. Though at first the phone looked quite pathetic with comparatively poor specification compared to the flagship phones of the competitors like XOLO, Gionee etc, the software features are making this ‘smartphone’ really ‘smart’, standing out from the crowd. The aluminium body, extremely good quality accessories, great aluminium flip cover with transparent front, brilliant features make Micromax Canvas 4 one of the best value for money Android mobile phone in India. Though, Micromax is trying hard to make place into the premium market, they should also upgrade the CPU & GPU from time to time. Though the processing power of Canvas 4 is enough for running the OS & playing lots of hard-core games, this falls short of the present trend of super smartphones. The processor is still the old, low powered Cortex-A7 and the user-interface also doesn’t have any stable theme from Micromax. Along with features, Micromax should work on a more stable interface with less software compatibility issues between the hardware and the software to become the top smartphone seller in India in future. Here is a quick review on this Micromax flagship and you can also visit YouTube.com/GadgetsPortal for video reviews by Gadgets Portal.

DISPLAY Size 5.0 inches (12.7 cm) Better than the displays on its predecessors. The colors are now more vivid, thanks to its 16.7M color support and HD resolution. 294 ppi is enough for a huge display like this. Overall, the display is bright, crisp and enjoyable to look at.

The back is made of anodised aluminium and the build of this Canvas 4 is also very premium, even feels better than that of Galaxy Series phones from Samsung.

PROCESSINGPOWER Processor Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 This time Micromax has not upgraded the CPU & GPU of its flagship from its predecessor Canvas HD. This is disappointing. SOFTWARE OS Android  v4.2.1 (Jelly Bean) Latest OS. As usual, Micromax hasn’t done any considerable customisation on the UI theme though there are some cool apps installed.
CONNECTIVITY SIM Mini-SIM, Dual slot (GSM+GSM) Very good connectivity options for a phone with this price tag. The 3G speed is the best you can get. The Bluetooth & USB versions etc. are also latest.

There are lots of added features on this phone which are making this device look much smarter than its predecessors. Micromax is following Samsung step-by-step and we really appreciate this initiative.

PRICE 18,000 INR ~300 USD Aggressive pricing considering the other players in the market. Value for money rating 4/5

Strong points: First of all, this phone doesn’t look like an 18K phone at all. The aluminium finish, good looking flip-cover and premium quality accessories make this phone feel like a premium phone like Galaxy S4 or HTC one.  You can show-off the amazing software features & added apps to your friends and the good camera can help you to capture good low light images.

Weak point: The CPU & GPU are below par considering the price. The interface isn’t custom Micromax and sometimes you may face software glitches. The battery isn’t also great. Micromax should have priced this device below 15,000 Rs.

Suitable for those people looking for a premium Android phone without breaking the bank. The 5” colourful display will be great for gaming, watching movies, browsing the internet etc. The music capability is also decent.

Other choices: You can also try Samsung Galaxy Grand duos with better software features but lower display quality and hardware specs. LG Optimus L9 is another phone with great looks, features & price. Sony Xperia L is a full-fledged smartphone with premium features like NFC etc.
