Micromax A72 Canvas Viva Specifications & Review – 5″ phablet at 6.8K

Micromax has recently launched a new phablet Micromax A72 Canvas Viva with a huge 5 inches 800 x 480 px display & 1 GHz processor. This phone is sadly still running on Android Gingerbread version 2.3.6 and the RAM on board is only 256 MB! But still this phone will be great for watching movies and browsing the internet as the display is extremely bright & colorful, one of the best displays I have ever seen on any device (including high end devices from multi-national brands!). The battery is of 2000 mAh which is also great. This Micromax A72 is just a compact tablet with only 6800 Rs price tag and the build and the look of this device are quite nice as well. This new smartphone sports a 3 mp rear camera along with a 0.3 mp front camera for video chatting. Check the key features & the full specifications with review below. Specifications
DISPLAY Size 5.0 inches (12.7 cm) This is the best display you can get of a device under 10K price tag, it’s extremely vibrant, bright & crisp, even comparable to super AMOLED. Though the ppi is not great, the display doesn’t feel uncomfortable from a normal distance. Get this device only for the display.

Resolution WVGA ie. 480 x 800 pixels @ 187 ppi
Type Capacitive, Multitouch (2)
EXTERIOR Dimensions 142.8x76x10.6 mm  It’s a huge phone mainly because of the large 5” display; one hand handling may not feel comfortable. The build quality is excellent. Overall it’s a very stylish phone with shiny front look & back matt finish.

PROCESSINGPOWER Processor Single core 1 GHz Good for a device with this price tag.

MEMORY System Memory 256 MB of RAM The weakest part of this device, because of this very low RAM & WVGA resolution display, you may not be able to play mid-range & even few entry level games on this phone. The internal memory is also very low though you can move few apps data to the external SD card.
Internal Storage 127 MB
Expansion microSD, up to 32 GB
SOFTWARE OS Android v2.3.6 (Gingerbread) Old version of OS but it’s a very low priced entry level phone after all.

BATTERY Capacity 2000 mAh Li-lon Overall good, one full day with normal to heavy uses.
PRICE 6,800 INR ~ 125 USD Nicely priced mainly because of the good display. Value for money rating 3/5.

Strong points: The display is the main attraction of this device; it’s amazingly beautiful with very good color reproduction. The glossy look & the sturdy feel of this phone is also appreciable.

Weak points: The RAM, internal storage & the OS version are the weakest points of this phone. Because of these, you will not be able to play mid-range games & the UI also feels shuttery sometimes. The camera is also pathetic.

Suitable for those people who are only looking for a large display phone with great color rendering for watching movies, photos etc. Better avoid this device if you are a gamer, get Micromax A89 or other devices in the same price range.
